Public Motors complaint
I called this place 3 times about the car I was looking at. The first time the guy said he couldn't find it on the website so it must have sold. Since their ebay listings list an amount and say "Best Offer" I asked the rep if they really accept offers that are lower than the stated price. He said the price listed IS the asking price and if the offer is reasonable it could be accepted. I called back when I found it and was told it was in fact there so I made an appointment to go the next day and see it. I test drove it and loved it. The car was listed on Ebay as $3900 or Best Offer. Based on what the rep had told me the day before, I offered $3200 and the salesman actually laughed at me. He said there was no way they would accept an offer that low. I told him what the rep told me the day before. I'd aslo asked the rep if there were any fees and he said just tax and licensing. Come to find out they charge a $250+2% auction fee. The salesman said the posted price is just a starting bid,not an amount they'd actually accept and that I should have been told that. I told him that had I known and had I NOT been given the wrong information, I would NOT have driven 2 HOURS to their lot. He showed me a bidders list that showed bid--that they had not accepted--in the $7000 range. If that's the case, I could have bought from a dealer right here in town for the same price. Don't go to this place unless you want to pay the same amount you'd pay at a local dealership. There is no savings here.
